Maintenance Division Manager
Steve is our Vice President and Garden Maintenance Manager. Steve grew up on his family’s farm in Orange, Virginia and studied horticulture at Piedmont Virginia Community College. He has more than 10 years of experience in the industry and is an Advanced Virginia Certified Horticulturist with the Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association as well as a Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture. Steve lives in Louisa with his wife and three children. They enjoy gardening, hiking and traveling.
Commercial Maintenance Manager
Matt is a Virginia Tech graduate with a B. S. degree in agriculture and environmental science. He served in the United States Marine Corps before joining J. W. Townsend, Inc. in May 2009. He is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist as well as a pesticide applicator; he is also a board member for the Piedmont Landscape Association. He and his wife are expecting their first child in November. In the meantime, he enjoys sports, snow skiing, and horseback riding.
Edward (Bud) moved to the Charlottesville area in 2006, and joined J. W. Townsend, Inc. in 2007. He is a graduate of N. C. State University. He is a member of the Virginia Turfgrass Council, and is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist and commercial pesticide applicator. He looks forward to travelling across the country again soon; in the meantime, he enjoys gardening, hiking, and reading.
Buck joined the J. W. Townsend, Inc. family in 2008 and currently manages hotpots, our container gardens division. He is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist with 35 years' experience in container gardening. Outside of work, Buck enjoys spending time at home and hanging out with his dogs.
hotpots Assistant Manager / Head Gardener
Danielle holds a B. S. in Psychology from JMU and a certificate in Landscape Design from University of Richmond. She is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist as well as a Registered Technician for pesticide application. Danielle joined J. W. Townsend, Inc. in April 2010 after working in sales and landscape design at a local garden center. She enjoys many outdoor activities including gardening and being on the river but she mostly enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys.
Geoff hails from Maine and holds a degree in Agribusiness and Resource Management from the University of Maine in Orono. Since moving to Charlottesville in 2004, he has worked on and managed fine properties and estates throughout Albemarle county. Geoff has a class A CDL and is working toward his VNLA certification and pesticide applicator certification. When not at J.W. Townsend, Inc., he enjoys anything to do with water and spending time with his family and dogs.
Alexandra joined JW Townsend in March of 2013, after having graduated from UVa the previous year. She was drawn to landscaping after having worked as a farmhand over several years, and spending the summer working on farms all over Europe. Alexandra loves all things that grow, and relaxes from a day at work with weeding the rows in her garden, planting anything she can get her hands on, and chasing off deer and groundhogs.
Special Projects Manager
Ernesto rejoined our group in June 2013 after working for J.W. Townsend 2005-2010 as an installation project manager. He has over 10 years experience in the field, and has been certified by both the VLNA and ISA and holds a Class A CDL. Ernesto loves to spend time with his family and coaches his son's soccer team. His hobbies include permaculture and organic gardening. He spent a few years travelling, surfing, and working at organic farms.
Noah holds a B.A. in philosophy and political science from Emory University in Atlanta, GA and has been with J.W. Townsend since Spring 2011. He is a VNLA certified horticulturalist and loves working in any landscape, including his own vegetable and ornamental gardens. When not playing in the dirt, Noah enjoys fly fishing, duck hunting, deer hunting, and reading. He is also an avid musician and plays the guitar, piano, and accordion.
Kathleen is a Virginia Tech graduate with a B. S. in Horticulture and Forestry. She worked for several years in garden centers and other nurseries before joining J. W. Townsend, Inc. in June of 2012. Kathleen is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist as well as a certified pesticide technician. Outside of work, she enjoys painting, running and hiking.
Robert holds a B. S. in Business Management from Alliance College. He is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist and joined J. W. Townsend, Inc. in October of 2012. Robert has over 25 years experience in the industry with 20 of those in the Charlottesville area. Outside of work, he enjoys sporting events, hiking, camping and spending time with friends and family. Go Hoos!
